a memoir

broken open

how I barely survived my home invasion

women don’t usually live to tell this kind of story, for a few good reasons:

—they don’t survive

—they can’t confront their trauma

—they can’t write

I survived a home invasion robbery.

I confronted my trauma.

I wrote about it.

he was hiding out from the cops after a multi-week crime spree in new york city. he found me in my apartment building, pushed me through my apartment door, and planned on staying as long as he could.

we were alone in my apartment for close to four hours.

he tied me up at knifepoint, bound, and gagged me…

I escaped.

broken open: how I barely survived my home invasion, is my book about how I utilized my own resilience and empathy, in the face of unimaginable fear, to find the strength and courage to confront my trauma and save my life in many ways.

maybe my story can do what digging deep and leaning on the rock star humans in my life for safety and support did for me.

maybe my story can inspire you to change your life, too.

broken open: how I barely survived my home invasion will be published in 2026.
